I'm gonna do on a lot of bullshit interests. Oh, I love it. Yeah. Okay. Daniel, I think. We're very lucky to have this guest here today. He is a men's rights activist. A gun rights activist, and fresh from his, jury trial for his participation in the January 6th insurrection. Acquitted on all charges. Is. Andy Kindler. Wow. You know, I I spoke to Laura. we were going to keep all of that. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I yeah, sure. I'm a member of, right wing, Jews for right wing. I forgot to say, born again. Christian. Born again. Right, right. So they used to be able to be so much fun being Jewish. Yeah, I was a member, you know, I was born in 56. So right after Hitler and, and I thought I dodged a bullet and I love the whole thing of that. My people have been persecuted and now. Well with the, with the right. Well I never liked the right wing and. Now I know. Netanyahu is worse than Trump. Yeah. So now it's no fun. No one's going to believe me when I try to relate But that would be here's the thing is terrible about the whole thing. Yeah. There's so much anti-Semitism. Yeah. Right. So it's like two things are so much I time I'm so, so you want to you want to get into that side of it, not YouTube. yeah. Yeah, yeah. vocal, the, proliferation, the antisemitism or any. Well, and, and also the separation between, like, you know, right wing, like Zionists and things like that and Judaism itself, I think is a is a huge problem. well, and People are dumb. That's the biggest thing. Yeah. Because they could, but they'll just equate those two to being the same and like not really knowing like the history of Judaism. And it's like, well, Hamas was, you know, funded to, to, to, you know, take out the PLO in the 80s and all that stuff, give you. The controversial days when it was all about Madonna being into Kabbalah. Like, can we go back to. That day like. A red bracelet on her wrist? Like, what was she, she wasn't in. There was a moment. Yeah, in the 90s. proudest moment. Kabbalah. But. But we know. Hey, you want some mysticism? Yeah. Check out the Kabbalah, my friend. What? Regardless of international disasters, you still shine as a comedian. as. That's true. Yeah. It's true, but you've been working for, I think, 40. I opened for Margaret Cho right now, and she's silver now is her 41st year, which is a huge number. And especially I think most people's question is like, why do you keep doing it? but stand up is my favorite thing. I love like like performance. Like, yeah. You started as a live act. yeah. Like, I like, I like change. and I have. As a position because that was my first year of All right, so here's the thing. Since I'm from several generations before you. so, like. so I grew up in Queens and, I went to school upstate New York, and I was like, into, you know, I was really influenced by the field, yeah. That's what I thought I was going to do. And when I went up to upstate New York, Suny Binghamton, I did a lot of theater. There was great theater there, and there was all this, great department there. But to be a theater major had to do the West Act. My Northwest Act was a state famous voice coach. Okay. And so if I want to be a major, I had to have, like, nine of these places, right? Oh, boy. Yeah. Oh yeah. So it I, it major in that and then I but I was determined to be working you know, the same year the Talking heads came out, I left college and I was not at their level. 77. Yeah. 78. 70. Nine. I moved to L.A. because, Yeah. Yeah, but If I had stayed for whatever reason in New York, I would have, but I would probably done the same road. But the thing was that, I was very much, we have a dog here. So if you hear it's nothing you can do. Yeah. but I, I played classical violin as a as a kid. I played, and for many years, and I hated it to death. But you got so much pussy by playing it, though, right? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And hot and cold running lady. I used to be. I used to go. Who was my wingman? Who's the guy who is in the wheelchair? What's his name? Yes, I. Know Scott Perlman. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So he's my. Way, man. Yeah. He's always, you know, you're. I can say anything. I can get a laugh. Here you go. Who's the guy in the wheelchair? So I had a violin, and then I got into, like, great. I love the Grateful Dead. And I was in this band in college. We were like a popular vocal band, right? So I moved out to LA. I got very. I didn't know that I was having all these emotional problems, which, I have now solved. Like what? Okay, so I realized this is also from years in therapy, so it's not like you're just realizing that, you. Know, we have that effect on people. Well, the thing is, is that I, my sister has the most beautiful singing voice. she she's passed away completely, but she always Janet kindler. Yeah. And she had amazing singing voice. But there's something it's not like her parents say. You know what? We can always discard you individually. But we all felt like we were defective and couldn't do things. So my sister didn't even feel good about her voice. And I, who loved Bob Dylan and all these other people. But then I didn't feel like I could sing, and it was like this whole thing where I was tied into singing or music as a self-esteem, self-esteem issues. And I didn't realize at the like, I just came to the to the conclusion just last week in therapy. That singing is its own reward. You know, like right, about that exercise. Right? Not the ego of being like in front of people or just actually going through the moment and that, like, I don't know if you're speaking like physically singing is its own reward, but you're singing for yourself. It's like I'm saying, it's a spiritual. It's train. Which also like he and him and Bill Moore, it's like, shut the fuck up. Just shut the fuck up. Who gives a fuck? So what's the point of My way, the way I've become spiritual and and the way I've become even younger is I do believe comedy and music comes from. And they're the same thing. I there's no division in that with me. At least I feel like it's the same river. Yeah. And when you're in that river. Yeah. There's the so many similarities. But when you're in that river it's coming from whatever you want to call. Yeah. Yes. You want to call. But when it's just me thinking I'm going to write a great song, it's a good joke. It's over, it's over. I have been such a narcissist in the moment, being like, because it's two things. You can be like, where is this coming from? Right? If you're just playing right, you're not, especially if you're not reading music. But then the minute you start thinking that same on stage, when you're like, wow, I am really killing. It's the minute you drop the ball. But it's never fail. It happens every time you get in your own way. Well, that's and I also have I'm A.D.D. and OCD. OCD was terrible when I started. Why I describe that. used to think in my I should say this back in the late 70s, early 80s, people might have thought I was crazy. I thought I'd hit somebody in my car. I didn't know that I'd hit them. Around the block. Oh wow. Again. And and. Just to be sure. Yeah I know, I know I did a bit about it like I called the police, the other tiny people and. so. I so the OCD was like a really, I don't know, what was it that wasn't that we were talking. About? Well, we were talking about music and how you feel more spiritual and younger and. Oh, checking yourself when you're on stage, you're in the moment and giving yourself the credit versus where it comes from. To stand up. I was seriously in OCD hell. And so I said I have, I am now holding the microphone with my right hand. I mean Yeah. In your head, yikes. I'm not going to be in the moment. There's no way I'm, you know. Yeah. And so meanwhile you're still talking like your mouth is moving. That's the weirdest place to be. Yeah. Earth. Scariest place you've. Done stand up. For how long? I'm in my, like, 12 years. Somewhere in there. you know, everybody's different. Like, when I start stand up. I could be funny, but I could also, Are you sure? Yeah, yeah. And I was going to do well when I first started. So it was actually good. What is that like. eventually it just kind of strangles you. Unless you really, I mean, it's almost impossible to work on, like, it's like the long letter. Yeah. And what happens if the other guy bombs and you're killing? Like, what. Is was I. I started to, riff. I have a man on the. Yes, but he's he's a therapist. And he was a that a very happy guy, He didn't need it. he didn't need it at the time. Yeah. Yeah. You were you playing music in the act now. Have you ever married the two. I never but I would now. But when I went on the road because that was considered the happiest thing. 100%. Right. With that. You know obviously flight of the Conchords. Nothing funny for Randy Newman. Right. Look at that guy. He was my one of my heroes. But I didn't, couldn't write that way. Couldn't write like. Isn't there a new some. Does Newman album. Joanna Newsom no, no no. Randy then no, no. Nielsen. Harry Nilsson I don't remember that. Yeah. Close. Right. he produced Randy Newman's album. Yeah, maybe it's like Touch of Schmaltz in In the Night or one of those romantic ones where he does reunion songs. like a cover? yeah, they were buds, though, for sure. Right. I really close. About after stories about, there was video of of him and John Lennon once taking the elevator, and one's running down the stairs. Oh, yeah. You can get there fastest. Oh, they also had the screaming competition. In my hotel. Well, they they did it like on a microphone. So we. Just for primal therapy or. I think it was just because they were just drunk. I think it was during like the last weekend for John Lennon when he was out here and he's here. He screamed so much that there was blood on the microphone and he ruined his voice. Well, I'm the first John Lennon album, yeah, I was going through with that. The Primal Scream guy had been in therapy with that guy. Yeah, offer, something To be like a weird kind of guru, like in the 60s or 70. He's like, how you could really clean up. I mean, you could you could do that again today. I think people. Are my favorite at Fab Joe George. Absolutely fabulous. It's so great. So, so the main character Adina is by Guru's. Joke is that she says, you know every guru is their name is an Indian dish. So last year Alibaba and yeah all of that damn is like getting released I I don't want to miss because the Elton John's has a great story about doing a bunch of blow with Elton John in a hotel room. With Elton John. Wait, what? Yeah. Oh, John Lennon. Was doing it in John. Lennon. All right. On them. And they're up. They do it in my club and at 40 and they hear a knock. And Elton says it takes it like 15 minutes to get to the door. And he looks at the people, and it's, Andy Warhol. And he, and he looks at John Lennon, goes, and John Lennon apparently goes. So, I so I was. There like, he'll have his camera and they don't want to take pictures. Yeah. Photo taken right now. So grown up in Queens. Like what? What part of Queens were you in. Whitestone, Queens, which is near flushing. Okay. Not far from Shea Stadium. Yeah. In between the Tribes Neck Bridge in the Whitestone. Right. So did your family, like, parents, like, work in the city or. My dad was, gas and heating contractor. So, Yeah. And then, you know. Scrap scrap the metal. This is fine. Yeah. but, He is 99. Yeah. Somewhere. Yeah. I love all Dick Van Dike show. Rosemary? Anne-Marie. Yeah. So easy. The Anne-Marie. Rosie. Yeah, but no, I. Jeremy, I met Norman Lear for, like, it was is it awesome? Yeah. Oh, damn. It's. Oh, beautiful. But okay, it's all your now. It's one of the things I'm most proud of. I put it out during the pandemic. I want to do another album now. but when I got back from Austin, I thought I would go right back into more clubs. there's so much, but I'm trying to do these things like, like catch up on my taxes. Yeah. Real sad. Well, because here's the thing. The pandemic changed everything for everyone. But then the industry and even just getting into clubs and getting booked has changed completely as well. Like, you have to have followers, you have to post clips, all of that shit. and that's just how you get books now, let alone the financial interruption of pandemic and not even wanting to perform in public spaces because you don't want to get sick. How long have you been opening for Margaret? I it's been a few years. Like we started the pandemic just before our last. It was March, whatever, 1415, when we were in Oklahoma City. All right. and that was it. We went home and it was like, I'll see you in May. And then it was over, but it fully took my job away, interrupted everything. So a but for you, was it a thing that you even want to perform in public spaces? The reason why I ended up I have to have a, you know, OCD and procrastination issues. So I recorded this album in, like, at the, mall and right near where I recorded, was this thing on Franklin Capitol Records. No. UCB. Okay. Right. So. something. Yeah, yeah. was like, Carson, something you had designs on as a. I wouldn't have had designs, but he was still on when I started comedy. Yeah. but I my first TV game was like an 80, you know, when they had all these cable shows. Yeah. What was your first what was that. Comedy on the road with John? All right. What was that like, cable or. It was cable. Yeah. Yeah, Stand up, stand up short to just band theater, the. A-list. The A-list. Yeah. what about, being older and you said playing music now with your comedy. What's the difference? Well, what happened now is that, I went through this again at age 62, through therapy. Did not realize that the source of what I was, was I was placing my self-esteem outside of me. And you can't do that for anything. So, Talk about that. Yeah. so comedy came easy, didn't come easy. But everybody in my family is pretty funny, right. so I got positive things for being funny early on. So I actually, when it comes to com comedy, they're much more comfortable coming up with comedy. But then the then the thing would be like, oh but then the whole thing is like well how are you going to do it on stage? And then all of this other. Kind of like harness it. Yeah. And, and facing so that, so my insecurities didn't come from me thinking I couldn't come up with a funny joke. From the business. Right. Yeah. With music, it was more like I, you know, I came up during a time period where so you know we had Eric Clapton all these fast guitar players and I just had this thing about I must not be good enough. And that actually came from my relationship, my father who's passed away. But I love him to death. I love him but he was extremely bright and without knowing it made me feel stupid. Yeah. How so. Just like. This is very funny because I go back to this specific argument that we had, it was like I was 14 and we were walking, I forgot somewhere and I was getting into like like reincarnation meaning. This whole thing like was he like an agnostic leaning towards atheist. And just very much like logic and. So he both through that discussion made me feel not smart enough to understand. And that there was no God. And then as I got older I just felt like we live in a society where everyone says there's no God and yeah horrible new atheists and all this kind of stuff. Yeah. The thing is that, I realized that pheromone therapy has been great for me. It was in therapy realized or I like, you know, joy, love You know, who. These things called, shame shadows. Okay. But, like, you have these false core beliefs. Okay. I one of these things that are shame shadows as you are, is pretty cool. Like, you have all these personalities in your brain. the book is called Finding Peace Okay. But you have the the judge. So in other words the judge, we start judging ourselves. My mother was extremely depressed. So I had as a kid you had to figure out things yourself. Yeah. You had to make judgments. Yeah. All kids have to do that. But once you're past 9 or 10, the judgmental part kills you. Just saying you didn't ever need anything. You know, you as a kid, you're trying to figure out. Oh if I do this with this person I'll get the candy. Yeah. Reward. Yeah. Yeah. But when you take that from Yeah, Yeah. and I had a lot of good trips Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Hydrate. Yeah. I want to trip my balls off, but I don't want to, like, dehydrate myself. Yeah, yeah. You know. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. And all that thing. Right. Yeah that's great. But you, but you stuck to you stuck to the bit right. Yeah. That's riveting. Yeah. When I was Yeah, yeah. So into. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. All right. experimented with running during the pandemic, and it was mostly downhill from the observatory. And slash and I talked about this, but I would do I was it was pandemic. Right. So I don't I don't know that we regularly right which is now in hindsight a lot. I, I can't get high if I'm going to eat an edible. It has to be 25mg or more. I. A lot. Yeah I do, I do five. Yeah. And I'm fine. Like my mushroom and take was always like I have a three grand minimum that just did not. Weed, mushrooms or mushrooms. I'm like, oh yeah. Yeah. I wasn't always my favorite. But yeah, I did ten milligrams and watched After Hours and I hadn't seen it in probably 20 years. And I was about to lose the Martin Scorsese movie. Griffin Dunne, remember? He's like, he's in New York and he's like, he meets, Rosanna Arquette. Yes. Yeah, we don't know. It's like Post Raging Bull. Yeah. Preminger. Yeah. Yeah. Brilliant. But, I think 911. I think that's where he turned. Yeah. Dennis Miller. Like. Activated Dennis Miller was 900, but something had to be existing with them for sure. You know that chance for that to be triggered. They're the Manchurian candidate inside of the brain. Yeah. I had a history teacher. She she showed us The Manchurian Candidate. She was. No shit. But the original. Oh, this was before the remake. Okay, good. Right. and she showed us that stuff, too, because she, like, wanted to be like that teacher. see, that's what I missed. Yeah, I missed about, like, at least being in public school is you get that one teacher who's like, Yeah. Right. Yeah. Before you going. Be like, yeah, yeah. And your high school Sure. Yeah, yeah. So I had as a last year, they had a, draft class. Yes. Yeah. These Yeah, yeah. So they so Yeah. Oh, yeah. We got to. Is that is that what got you in, like, into politics? I'm very left. Except I'm not. It's like I'm very lucky to have, like, my, might say something like, capitalism sometime this time, Yeah, yeah, I like, I like, I don't like, like, Yeah. I country. Yeah. The right way. Yeah. And so I don't have to call myself a social. Yeah. it does bring up Obama and socialism really fast in Texas being there. It's like you drive from my family's in Dallas Fort Worth. I lived in Austin forever. So that drive and you always know you're. How long is that drive? Three hours. Yeah. I can do it in 258. but the other thing is, and you knew Texas was changing. I mean, it's always been what it is, but it's getting more radical and more vocal. Was driving from Dallas to Austin. You know, you were almost at Waco when you were by the huge billboard that had a, a black and white just head shot of Obama going, and then and in jagged letters it said socialist. And I was always driving like, I never got a good picture of it, but, yeah, they really like to throw those two guys together. Well, you talk about Waco, it's like, obviously not only was it handled poorly, all those things, when people like Bill Maher start arguing that, know he made some people Islamophobic. Yeah. And he actually Bill Maher, you saw, you know, questions really on how dangerous. the Inquisition's. So to Timothy McVeigh. Yeah. All the white supremacy is. Yeah. Problem that anything that you would ever talk about. Agreed. And it's definitely pervasive in Texas politics. The kind of like religious white supremacy or I guess what do they call it, like a Christian. Measures that, Even before. Yeah. I do it. Yeah. Can do it. Pussy like I yeah, I'm like, fucking pull the trigger. Ken Paxton. Ken Paxton. And the other guy, Not Greg Abbott. who's the lieutenant governor? Dan. Patrick. Dan. Yes. Patrick. Yeah, yeah, yeah. some of the evilest Wow. they there's a PBS special called the, like the, Yeah. He's But that's that's all just a facade for just fucking money and selling arms. Yeah, but. My Ivan's funeral was at that church. Whoa. And I in the electric. Yeah. It's like getting the bad voodoo out of that place. Like redeem the room. But yeah during the Ann Richards days. Yeah. at, Yeah, yeah, I really moving there. And I think that's what they're not really. Well to think like I mean you also have it's crazy that like Hispanics for Trump like that. Oh that but that's that's all. Yeah. But that's also like pull up pulling the ladder up behind. Yeah. Yeah. Republicans. yeah. Where those guys go that was like a brigade. Yeah. she Never Trumpers now. They never get And it's my favorite. And made Jim Belushi your next star. And then and then and then you come back like you'll do a couple more, a couple more jokes, and you'll come back and be like John Belushi. John Belushi died, and. It's more and. More I, I love it. That's that's all time. One of my favorites. And I'm supposed Laura told me to remind you are I want to remind since we're shit talking section George Lopez. Oh, George Lopez. Oh, I must know. boy, he really, George Lopez did not like me. I worked with him at the punch line in San Francisco, and he did not like me at all. When was this? In the 90s or something like. And when you say, did not like you, how was that? How? I think you could tell that I had an act. And not like his act. And, you know, he's a look, let's not be mean, but he is horrible. Yeah, yeah, it. Is a terrible, terrible thing. I love it, and he's very rich. Yeah. You hear the story about, he. Walked out of the show? No, I was the story is that story is a Jay Leno. went up to George Lopez in a club thinking he was Paul. Right? Right. Yes. Oh, then. Why the miss to clear up some of vehicles? Because you said that I didn't recognize you, but I really didn't have my block. And That. Jesus Christ. I go to the church, Joan Rivers. I like, love, love, love her. I know she's, a little controversial, but my favorite thing is in her last, my favorite era of the rivers is kind of the last 10 to 15 years. I think she was just like, yeah, giving it like, come in or not, but there's not there's. Full steam ahead. And it was really magic. I saw it like three times. And one of them was three months before she passed. And so she was just like, let you guys it. But there's in that era, there's not like on either of her TV shows, an interview or comedy set where she doesn't get to Jay Leno and it's so, it's so So I got a question. So you're Jay Leno's you're Howie Mandel's. Do people forget that they were never funny like, because I've never understood like Howie Mandel now dresses like a toddler with money, which I think is just like his way of, like, anytime anybody wears, like, wacky frames, I think it's like their way of of inserting a, like the lack of a, personality. They're overcompensating. Yeah. You know, what's weird is that I am old enough to remember when he was on Saint Elsewhere. Oh, yeah. He was like a good actor. Yeah. And what was the other person you're talking about? oh. Jay. Jay Leno. He. He was. No Letterman. It was fine. Letterman. Okay, sit down for him. He's like he was the one to beat. Yeah. like jokes, like, okay. Yeah, but I'm not saying you're going to. Yeah. To be a come to Jesus. Yeah, but you're going to realize he's not the high. Yeah. Yes. That Jay Leno. But then it's so far from that time. Yeah, I jump in? Oh, yeah. To train to something. Yeah. Yeah, right. It's not it's not a not on. the show. Yeah. I was, I just Yeah. right? Yeah. Never loses this, And you gave people chances. I mean, like, yeah, he would have on good bands and. Having heart surgery and letting Janine Garafolo, host. Yeah. For my teenage heart with her. Yeah. And my heart exploded for a week. I couldn't believe it. I also have to bring up. We had the, Sklar brothers on here, and they were talking about how you got them to quit law school. Yeah, well, I when I, when, Yeah. Yeah, you just gave him a nudge. Yeah, but but the Yeah. Work on Right. So I think that was good for them because they were really thinking they had to go the long route. and so me saying you gotta go with your heart. Where did you find that Yeah. At that point in your life. Where were you coming from. Or how have you been working with that since? Since then? I think that the thing about, And I'm using, I'm so sorry, I know. No, I'm so sorry. Workman's comp. But finding finding peace and saying follow your heart. Yeah. how did you come to that? but. I've seen you do it and like lose, kind of lose a crowd. And I think that's like where you really come into your own and then you pull them back in. It's fucking amazing. Like. So Yeah. When you're not enjoying. Oh, no, I was. Miserable. I was. Though I would get this, again. Yeah. And it's kind of sucks that And it's just like, and it works. like, yeah, where is she? How is she? yeah. Yeah. like the racist Eric Clapton. Right. So I'm just saying that people would, you know, I like cream. Okay. Yeah. Good. Rush. Yeah, but rooms. Great. And do you like pylon? And I was, obsessed with. Do you like pylon? Pylon was another band from Athens, so they're like the ones that, like, you know, the B-52s and R.E.M.. Yeah, and they're like. They're like. They're like, no. Pylon is the band that should have made it there. If you. They're fucking like that, like post-punk kind of post new wave, like, you know, perfect. That late 70s, early 80s good bass. Like just perfect time for music. Pylon is fucking gravel. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah they do. They chuckled up. Yeah. And to be I mean Athens is kind of like a more like liberal part of Georgia. But like for those bands that come out of Georgia is fucking rad. I love it. I, there's this beginning to this song called ain't It a shame. Why talk about it. Yeah. Because. You looked at that color TV. Yeah. Musical inspiring. Yeah. and, and, Williams, I love. Oh, yeah. I was obsessed with, like, Steve Earle, I got. Oh, yeah. Steve Earle is fucking great. yeah. So sad. Dude, that John Hiatt I Oh my God. Okay, great. No. Two voices from far and wide, however you Fahey. Yeah. John Fahey, voice of the turtle. Oh, my God, you're gonna love it. Thank you. Okay, I don't know if I can say this or not. He's still alive, but allegedly, my Yeah. You? Yeah. Yeah. That's great music that I know. Ice water is the album. Yeah, it's the one. It's. There's like a bowler hat on it or something like that. And you're deadhead. Yeah, I yeah, I mean, I, I and that was. All of them. drugs. Yeah. Which I, you fentanyl problem. Yeah. Because you would, I would get to a dead cancer. I swear to Yeah. Right. So I think he even knows what I what, two wouldn't be enough. Yeah. All right. in this climate, I. Know. I would. I would. Be in the cocaine. Years. Yeah, I have. Enough. Alfred Molina. Yeah. That perfectly captures. Yeah. I know Laura Kightlinger. Yeah. Laura Kightlinger. Yeah. What do you say? I don't know, yeah. I guess. But don't you feel like it's kind of like a virus that happens like every 20 years because like 20 years prior to this, it was, you know, the fucking redneck shit. And then 20 years prior to that, it was, you know, fucking those dumb dicks. It was like, Joe Piscopo is nowhere to be found. My favorite thing about the early Simpsons, Yeah, I really do. Yeah. Seasons one through five. There's lots of, Yeah. I feel bad because they didn't say it out loud. We were at the National out of. Yeah, nobody like that. And as Laura likes to say, because she's from Jamestown as well, it's also where Lucille Ball is from.
